BIPOC Historical Mystery Reads
Every so often I get included on lists of diverse authors, and 99% of the time that’s due to my last name. Khavari is an Iranian name, one that I took when I married my Iranian-American husband many years before I became an author.
I see why it causes confusion, especially because Iran has a lot of diversity within it and that fact I glow in the dark doesn’t automatically discount me from having that background.
To clarify: I am white. So very white. I am a white American and should not be put on lists of BIPOC authors or to celebrate any month’s cultural designation. But I figured this could be an opportunity to point out some authors who actually do represent diverse perspectives, so here we are.
This is not a definitive list of historical mystery authors, of course, but it could be a starting point if you like the particular brand of fun historical mystery I write in my Saffron Everleigh series.
Feel free to return back to this list, it will be updated as I discover more historical mystery authors to add! Drop any names I should include in the comments.
